Rogers, the musical composer for Disney, explains Bucky Barnes’ diminished role.

Disney’s Rogers: The Musical conductor and composer Christopher Lennertz finally spoke out about Bucky Barnes’ significantly lower role in the musical than he has in the MCU. Fans of Bucky Barnes have long been upset with Marvel for neglecting their favourite character; the most recent illustration of this is in Disney’s Rogers: The Musical, in which the Winter Soldier is only a bystander. Before Steve transforms into a Super Soldier in the show, Bucky makes an appearance. He then returns for the last song. Barnes’ part was reduced for Rogers: The Musical, which makes its premiere at Disneyland in June 2023, according to Lennertz in a recent interview.

Rogers: The Musical had to be between 30 and 35 minutes long in order to fit into Disney’s schedule of four performances per day, which was regrettably insufficient to cover the entirety of Captain America’s existence. This prompted Lennertz and his crew to totally redesign the production and drastically cut the amount of time several characters (including Bucky) spent on stage. We were obliged to make certain decisions that we really didn’t want to, the composer claimed. The main one was probably that we didn’t want so little of Bucky. The Winter Soldier was a far more significant role in Rogers’ plot in the original version of Rogers: The Musical, which was “much longer” than the current version. Hopefully, the lengthier version of this programme featured Bucky as a much greater part in this, if anybody would ever let us do it. That has always been the other extremely significant figure in Cap’s life. There was definitely a Bucky and Cap song in there. But, as Lennertz said, “We really literally didn’t have the time. The musical piece was never truly done.

If Rogers: The Musical ever made it to Broadway, the conductor seemed to think that it wasn’t the end and that Barnes could still play a more significant part. He said, “Absolutely there could be a great Broadway version of this show in which Bucky has a really big part and will say the lines he needs to say. Therefore, it’s intriguing to consider how that would operate. In comparison to how they feel about Peggy getting to recite one of Bucky’s movie lines in the musical, fans are more furious over the Winter Soldier’s decreased involvement in Rogers: The Musical. Lennertz said that Carter intentionally received Barnes’ phrase due to time limitations even though she was aware of the controversy. He said, “Obviously, we were all aware of it. It wasn’t an error. We all were aware of this. We all decided that in order to fit the line into this 35-minute performance, we needed to start with the Peggy plot.

Rogers: The Musical is scheduled to perform until August 31 at Disney California Adventure.
