According to reports, The Fantastic Four will not be place in the revered timeline, in contrast to most other Marvel Cinematic Universe ventures. Insider sources claim that the next Fantastic Four reboot will not take place on Earth-616, but rather in an other reality. Should this prove to be accurate, Deadpool & Wolverine—which is anticipated to take place in 20th Century Studios’ X-Men Universe—would be the second MCU film to be set in an alternate world. Additionally, Insider revealed that the highly anticipated film’s production would start in August in London, England. This information follows Marvel Studios’ casting announcement artwork, which hinted that The Fantastic Four will take place in the 1960s.
Marvel Studios originally revealed The Fantastic Four in July 2019, and Matt Shakman, the director of WandaVision, was confirmed to direct the relaunch in August 2022. After then, the work moved slowly and Marvel released little information, particularly regarding casting. For months, there were constant rumors on the internet about who was being considered to play a member of Marvel’s First Family, with many names being mentioned repeatedly. The casting of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Johnny Storm/Human Torch, respectively, in The Fantastic Four was finally revealed on Valentine’s Day 2024 by Marvel Studios.
Marvel Studios has not yet disclosed the opponent the Fantastic Four will take on in their MCU premiere. A lot of fans anticipate seeing Doctor Doom in the film, as he was in every previous live-action Fantastic Four version. He was portrayed by Joseph Culp in the unpublished Fantastic Four (1994), Julian McMahon in the Fantastic Four (2005) and its 2007 sequel, and Toby Kebbell in the Fantastic Four (2015). There’s a chance, though, that Doctor Doom won’t be joining The Fantastic Four as Galactus would supposedly be the major antagonist of the remake, with Antonio Banderas and Javier Bardem being Marvel’s top choices for the part. Mole Man, the first enemy Marvel’s First Family has ever encountered in comic books, is another potential Fantastic Four foe for the next reboot. Star of Oppenheimer, David Krumholtz, has showed interest in portraying Mole Man in the MCU, thinking he’d be “a shoe-in” for the part after an unsuccessful effort to play The Thing in The Fantastic Four. “I’ll do anything Marvel tells me to,” he clarified. I’ll most likely wind up taking on the role of a superhero’s counselor. Let’s be honest. Unfortunately, there aren’t many opportunities in that environment for guys like myself. I’m not in a shape that is appropriate for my age. So, if it turns out at all, we’ll see how that goes.”
