2019’s Captain Marvel had a surge of negative reviews on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes shortly after its debut. Since so many people were experiencing this problem, Rotten Tomatoes had to change the way it handles user reviews. Notably, members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are aware of this criticism, and most recently, Samuel L. Jackson spoke out in support of the work of his colleague. Jackson reaffirmed his unflinching support for Brie Larson in an interview with Variety and stressed that the disapproving remarks of “incel dudes” will not stop her from becoming a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He praised Larson’s fortitude and tenacity, emphasizing how she maintains her integrity and speaks up without fear. In The Marvels later this year, the two actors will reconnect after appearing together in Kong: Skull Island, Captain Marvel, and Unicorn Store.
Jackson emphasised Larson’s transforming devotion for her performance in Captain Marvel as another evidence of her passion to her profession. He compared her to other performers who go through rigorous physical training, emphasising her outstanding work ethic. Larson’s steadfast dedication to her character and her capacity to deal with the stresses of being in the limelight were highlighted by the actor’s open comments.
Samuel L. Jackson will resume his role as the mysterious Nick Fury in the much awaited Marvel Studios series Secret Invasion, which will premiere on Disney+, in addition to defending Brie Larson. The limited series chronicles Fury’s investigation into a Skrull invasion that affects the most powerful individuals in international institutions of government. Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos will join Jackson as fellow MCU stalwarts. Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir will all make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts in the series.
