As production on the third installment of Venom gets underway, it looks that Eddie Brock and the extraterrestrial symbiote will be placed in a novel environment. New images from the Venom 3 set seem to indicate that at least portion of the movie will take place in Mexico, although the first two Venom movies were mostly filmed in San Francisco. The Los Mateos neighborhood’s streets have been transformed to resemble Mexican streets while filming has started in Cartagena, Spain. Many of the objects look to be Day of the Dead-inspired, as highlighted by Twitter user @QuidVacuo, who pointed out that the movie honours Mexican culture.
The fact that the film is set in Mexico hints that it will continue where Venom: Let There Be Carnage left off in 2021. Eddie and Venom make the wise decision to take a well-earned vacation after taking down Cletus Kasady, alias Carnage. They are nonetheless taken to a new universe while in their hotel room watching a Mexican soap drama. The fact that Venom and Spider-Man are on Earth-199999 is revealed when Tom Holland’s Spider-Man appears on their screen. However, they seem to be whisked back to their home realm in the Spider-Man: No Way Home post-credits sequence, leaving only a fragment of the Venom symbiote behind as Eddie is still attempting to catch up on the happenings on Earth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As previously announced, Venom 3 filming started this week in Cartagena, Spain. Francisco Garca, president of the Los Mateos Neighbourhood Association, has expressed his happiness that the region was selected as a significant filming location, saying that the film team “gives life to the area.” The Cartagena City Council said that Venom 3 would shoot sequences in Calblanque, a beautiful beach close to Cartagena, in addition to Los Mateos. Although the plot of the forthcoming Venom movie has been kept a secret, Venom 3’s working title could hint at the threequel’s antagonist. Orwell is the production name for Venom 3. Orwell Taylor was a significant character in the 1992 comic book series Venom: Lethal Protector, as Marvel fans have immediately noted. In the comic, Orwell wants retribution on Venom for killing his kid. The narrative for the film was created by series actor Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel, who also authored the scripts for the first two Venom films and is slated to helm Venom 3.
