Shang-Chi’s future in the MCU: Avengers team-ups, The Atlas foundation, and Agents of Atlas

Marvel fans have been eagerly awaiting Shang-Chi’s return since “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” became a hit in 2021. Although a sequel was confirmed early on, its development seems to have stalled, with Simu Liu himself expressing frustration over the delays. However, new rumors suggest that Marvel Studios has big plans for Shang-Chi’s next adventure. In his latest article, Simu Liu will return as Shang-Chi in upcoming Avengers films, including “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” In these movies, Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, will call on him to help fight a major threat.

But what about his solo story? Reports suggest that “Shang-Chi 2” will introduce a powerful secret organization—the Atlas Foundation—which could lead to the formation of the Agents of Atlas. In Marvel Comics, the Atlas Foundation is an ancient secret society with roots going back to the Mongol Empire. The group, originally led by Master Plan Chu, wanted to control the world through crime, business, magic, and science. However, after Chu’s fall, Jimmy Woo took over and changed its purpose, leading to the creation of the Agents of Atlas.

The sequel will explore the consequences of Wenwu’s (the Mandarin’s) death. With Wenwu gone, the Atlas Foundation sees an opportunity to take over. The Golden Horde, their army, might attack the Ten Rings organization, now led by Xialing, Shang-Chi’s sister. This attack could force Shang-Chi back into the fight. At the same time, Jimmy Woo will be investigating the mysterious Golden Claw, which will lead him to uncover the truth about the Atlas Foundation. This could set up the formation of the Agents of Atlas in the MCU.

One of the most mysterious figures in the Atlas Foundation is Mr. Lao, a dragon who serves as an advisor. Marvel might explore his backstory and even connect him to the Clandestines from “Ms. Marvel.” If the Agents of Atlas do appear, Marvel may introduce characters like Amadeus Cho, a super-genius who was rumored to be in “Captain America: Brave New World”; Iron Fist (Lin Lie), a martial artist and hero; and Luna Snow, a K-pop star with ice-based powers, popular from the Marvel Rivals game. If these rumors are true, “Shang-Chi 2” could be an action-packed movie that expands the MCU in exciting ways. It might introduce new heroes, deeper connections to past Marvel stories, and a powerful new enemy. For now, fans will have to wait for official confirmation.
