Shawn Levy Coyly responds to the Avengers: Secret Wars directing rumours

Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool 3, briefly addressed rumours that Marvel Studios was interested in hiring him to film their impending big-budget crossover event, Avengers: Secret Wars. Levy was questioned about a widespread rumour that he was in the running to helm Secret Wars during a TIFF 2023 interview about his new Netflix series All The Light You Cannot See. He responded coyly, “I read that rumour, and that’s all I’m going to say. The name of Levy as a Marvel filmmaker is not the first to be associated with Secret Wars. Over the last year, there have been rumours about both Sam Raimi (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Ryan Coogler (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) getting the coveted job. Raimi hasn’t addressed the rumours about the Secret Wars, but Coogler has, labelling them “crazy” back in late 2022. Levy claimed that the impending third installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been “working on editing” while shooting on Deadpool 3 has been put on hold because to the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes. He said, “We went to great lengths to not shoot it on sound stages with digital environments,” which further supported the statement that Deadpool 3 “is raw, audacious, and very much R-rated,” like the first two movies. By posting images from our session online, the internet has demonstrated that. I appreciate the internet.

While Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson/Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (Logan/Wolverine) have both acknowledged that time travel is a part of the plot, plot elements for Deadpool 3 are still mostly unknown. The Merc with a Mouth previously travelled the cosmos in Deadpool 2 in order to murder the version of himself from X-Men Origins: Wolverine and “stop” Reynolds from playing the Green Lantern in the DC movie. Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Halle Berry (Storm), Famke Janssen (Jean Grey), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Channing Tatum (Gambit) are just a few of the stars rumoured to participate in the movie. There have also been speculations that the threequel would have a lot of Marvel appearances. Avengers: Secret Wars, which was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, is anticipated to be a direct sequel to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. While the forthcoming Avengers movies’ stories are still a secret, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is apparently going to be an enemy in The Kang Dynasty. Additionally, there have been rumours that Jackman and Andrew Garfield, who play Spider-Man and Wolverine in the Marvel universe, may reprise those roles in Secret Wars. Originally assigned to pen the script for Avengers: Secret Wars, Michael Waldron is apparently no longer associated with the planned film as of August 2023.
