Theo James’ hidden part in Marvel Studios’ forthcoming Disney+ resurrection of the iconic animated series from the early 1990s was hinted to by X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo. The voice cast and release date for X-Men ’97 were eventually revealed after the official trailer was released. The role that Divergent alum Theo James would be portraying in the animated superhero relaunch, however, was conspicuously absent from the press statement. Although the motivation for Marvel Studios’ decision to withhold information about James’ role, this seems to point to James’ possible importance to the programme. DeMayo, who previously collaborated with James on the 2021 animated film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf for Netflix, said in an interview that the British actor is providing the voice of a “fan-favorite character” who the showrunner thinks “will surprise people.”
Based on X-Men: The Animated Series, a five-season television series that ran from 1992 to 1997, Marvel Studios Animation produced X-Men ’97. Following the events of the original show’s ending, in which Professor X/Charles Xavier bid farewell to his X-Men, the resurrection is anticipated to take place. LoCascio as Gambit, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, JP Karliak as Morph, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler, Ross Marquand as Professor X, and more are among the cast members. As a non-binary hero, the latter is said to have a “interesting buddy relationship with Wolverine.” In the resurrection, Morph’s previous relationship with Season 1’s primary nemesis, Marvel villain Mister Sinister, will also be discussed.
