Marvel’s El Muerto movie is still in the works at Sony Pictures despite the recent announcement of its removal from the theatrical-release calendar. The studio is not giving up on bringing the luchador superhero to the big screen, with the film still in active development. As per Variety, the studio has quietly resumed the development process with the hunt for a new lead.

Previously, Bad Bunny was set for the lead role in the movie, but due to delays from the SAG-AFTRA strike and Bad Bunny’s touring and recording schedule, he is no longer involved. The rapper/singer was a significant pick for the studio, given his popularity and experience working with WWE as a professional wrestler.

El Muerto is a character from the Spider-Man comics who follows a wrestler with superpowers passed down from generation to generation in a single family. He is an antihero and the son of a luchador, or Mexican wrestler and next in line to inherit the ancestral power of El Muerto. The film’s storyline will revolve around the character’s journey to save his family’s legacy while fighting off evil forces.

Despite the challenges faced during the development of the movie, Sony Pictures is still determined to bring the popular Marvel character El Muerto to the big screen. With the renewed development process and the hunt for a new lead actor, Sony is making every effort to ensure that the movie does justice to the original storyline and satisfies the fans.
