Todd McFarlane, who co-created Venom, has spoken about the character in the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 video game from Insomniac Games and his opinion that the extraterrestrial symbiote is better off as a straight-up antagonist. In an interview, McFarlane discussed the character with enthusiasm and said that a more evil Venom would be ideal for the game. “I like it. Okay, let me just declare up front that everything I’m going to say is biassed because of who I am. I’m biassed in favour of Venom since I was the one who designed its aesthetic, he said. “First, I consider Venom to be a bad guy. I find it difficult to comprehend in my mind that he is a somewhat decent person. Because in my opinion, the villains are only as good as the heroes. If you triumph and prove to be the good person, the deed will be all the more heroic, according to McFarlane.
In the second episode of Marvel’s Spider-Man, McFarlane discussed the next potential host for the Venom symbiote, saying, “If Harry Osborn, that character on his best recanting, is really almost on the verge of insane.” And if you put that person in the Venom costume, I believe you have a fairly badass version. That’s a great combination, in my opinion,” he remarked. At the conclusion of Marvel’s Spider-Man, it was revealed that Harry was ill and receiving care from his father, Norman Osborn, and a symbiote. This strengthened the idea that he would turn into Venom. However, McFarlane is unsure if the game’s creative team would take the character in such a dark direction. “would they go that far? I’m not sure. I always let my brain go a little bit dark before adding a little light on top of it. Just those personalities, I like them,” he stated. Finally, McFarlane said, “So I don’t know. I have no idea what they’ll do. But after donning the disguise and driving Harry Osborn nuts, he would become a complete disaster. And at that point, Spider-Man would find it quite difficult to stop him.
