Jharrel Jerome, the voice actor for Miles G. Morales in “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” has revealed that voice recording for the highly anticipated animated film has not yet begun. In an interview with ScreenRant, Jerome stated, “I haven’t [begun voice recording], but I also can’t really say so much more because, you know, that’s such a tight-knit ship. I don’t even know much. I’m as much in the dark as you, but I’m excited to get back into it and see what they’re thinking, especially involving my character. That was such a badass twist to the last one”. This update suggests that the film is still in the early stages of production, despite initial expectations for a March 2024 release.
The delay in voice recording can be attributed to several factors, including the 2023 actors’ strike, which halted production for a significant period. Additionally, the unique animation style of the Spider-Verse trilogy requires more time and effort compared to standard animated features, contributing to the extended production timeline. Despite these challenges, Jerome remains optimistic about returning to the role and is eager to see how his character, who was revealed as the Prowler in an alternate universe at the end of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” will be further developed in the upcoming film.
Fan concerns about the film’s progress have been exacerbated by rumors of creative differences and significant delays. However, these rumors have been debunked by the film’s writer/producer, Christopher Lord, and score composer, Daniel Pemberton, who have reassured fans that the production team is taking the necessary time to ensure the film meets high standards. While a new release date has not been announced, it is clear that the filmmakers are committed to delivering a high-quality conclusion to Miles Morales’ trilogy. As of now, it seems likely that “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” will not be released until 2026 at the earliest.
