Fans of the Blade series were pleasantly surprised when Wesley Snipes appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor confessed that he had hoped for a return but believed it would never happen. Deadpool & Wolverine provided copious amounts of fan service with its buffet of Easter eggs and unexpected appearances. Most people are probably aware of all of these, courtesy to word of mouth from those who saw the film in cinemas. Fans may have expected many of the appearances, but Blade’s comeback took them entirely by surprise. Wesley Snipes returning the character is a throwback to the past, but it also confirms that he can still lead the Blade brand. In an interview, Snipes said that he had not expected to be cast in the film (or the MCU) until he was approached by Ryan Reynolds via text message: “I want to talk to you,” it read.
“Over the years, we’ve had very interesting conversations, some of them very substantive and some of them not,” he told me. “So I kind of accepted that I was moving on from them, which was OK. I completed three of these, and I felt they came out rather well. Not bad… So we go on to larger and better things. Snipes confirmed that Reynolds, his co-star in Blade: Trinity, offered the concept. “I did not think it was possible,” Snipes said. “I doubted we’d be able to pull it off. I didn’t believe Marvel was into it, but Disney was — especially because Mahershala Ali was cast in the next future edition.”
Snipes’ Blade stole the spotlight in one of Deadpool & Wolverine’s most spectacular scenes, when the daywalker declared there could only be one Blade in the Marvel world. The catchphrase is ironic given that they are already working on a remake, and Snipes admitted he was originally unsure he would ever reprise the role. “I felt it didn’t make sense, but when you receive a call from Ryan Reynolds after 20 years, you go, ‘Okay, I’ve got to accept this call. “Let’s see what this is about,” he said. “He pitched me the concept… They said ‘yes’ and ‘it’s a go. “If you’re in, so are we.” “Here we are.” Blade’s unveiling in Deadpool and Wolverine was a surprise, made even more epic by the arrival of Gambit (Channing Tatum) and the reappearance of Elektra (Jennifer Garner). The film gave their characters time to breathe, even allowing them to go on one more journey with X-23 (Dafne Keen), resulting in one of the MCU’s finest fight scenes.
