The Blade trilogy by Wesley Snipes will be available on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming service. According to sources, the supernaturally themed superhero trilogy’s three flicks will start streaming on Max on Friday, September 1. Blade won’t be streaming on any platform again for the first time since its two-month run on Hulu from October to December 2022. Blade made his comic book début in The Tomb of Dracula by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan in 1973. He was first portrayed as a human who dedicated his life to eradicating all vampires since he is immune to vampire bites. However, the character was retroactively confirmed as a dhampir in the comics after being portrayed as such in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Snipes’ Blade trilogy. The original Blade movie, which was directed by Stephen Norrington and debuted in 1998, followed Snipes’ titular Daywalker as he chased out bloodsuckers with a variety of cutting-edge technology. Due to the movie’s unanticipated popularity, two sequels were produced: Blade II by Guillermo Del Toro in 2002 and Blade: Trinity by David S. Goyer in 2004. The movie office success of the trilogy is credited with opening the door for further Marvel Comics adaptations, including Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and 20th Century Fox’s X-Men series.

Mahershala Ali is in the process of being cast as the titular character in a Blade revival being developed by Marvel Studios. Blade is still in the pre-production stage more than four years after Marvel announced the revival and Ali’s casting in July 2019. Following Bassam Tariq’s resignation as director, the start of production was postponed from its intended October 2022 start date. A month later, Yann Demange took his position. As a result of the Writers Guild of America strike, the production was then scheduled to start this summer but was again delayed. Following the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, filming is currently anticipated to start. Details of the plot are yet unclear. According to several sources, before completely committing to the project, Ali has demanded that numerous revisions be made to the screenplay after being disappointed with earlier draughts. As a result, a number of authors have joined the project to try their hand at the script. Original Blade writer Stacy Amma Osei-Kuffour was replaced by X-Men ’97 head writer Beau DeMayo, who in turn was replaced by Nic Pizzolatto, author of True Detective, who is apparently completing a page-one rewrite on the movie.
