In the Multiverse of Madness, Mister Fantastic almost resembled his original Marvel Comics counterpart, Doctor Strange. The concept image for actor John Krasinski’s portrayal of the leader of the Fantastic Four from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – The image of the Movie was made public via The Direct. One depiction recreates his early Marvel days’ distinctive blue outfit with the white gloves, belt, and boots. Another rendering features a more blocky “4” logo that matches the modernised black and blue suit. Different blue and teal hues as well as different iterations of the “4” on his chest may be seen in the other Mister Fantastic designs. In the end, Krasinski’s final outfit would seem more futuristic and Avengers-like. The actor of The Office and Jack Ryan has been the top fan pick for the patriarch of Marvel’s first family ever since Marvel recovered the rights to the Fantastic Four film franchise following the Fox-Disney takeover in 2019. Director Sam Raimi made the decision to give the audience what they wanted when Marvel made the decision to include Reed Richards in The Illuminati on Earth-838 in Multiverse of Madness. Raimi remarked, “It’s really amusing that Kevin cast John because the audience had a fantasy about who the ideal Reed Richards would be. “And since this is a parallel reality, I believe Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.'” I’ve always found his performances to be really entertaining.

Up until the publication of the follow-up, Krasinski’s appearance in Multiverse of Madness was kept a closely-guarded secret. Along with Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier/Professor X, he is a member of The Illuminati. He holds Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in custody to avoid damage to his reality and engages Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) in combat only to suffer a gruesome death at her hands. Fans had anticipated that the actor might return for the forthcoming Fantastic Four film as part of Marvel’s Phase Six, but Krasinski hasn’t spoken with the studio about his future plans. The only conversation I had was about Jack Ryan, which was actually in the second-to-last episode, according to Krasinski. “Kevin Feige contacted and asked if you’d ever come to Los Angeles and spend the day playing in our sandbox. I felt privileged to do that. When we finished, I immediately boarded a flight out of Budapest and arrived to the Doctor Strange set. Being able to spend one day playing in that sandbox was an absolute delight for me because I love all of those characters and that universe so much.
