Loki Season 2 executive producer Kevin Wright reveals how the God of Mischief might play a major role in Avengers: Secret Wars given the character’s connections to the MCU’s first three phases as the season 2 debut of Loki draws near. “He’s become that, and I remember Michael Waldron and I would talk about a lot in season one or just kind of acknowledge in season one, so much of the first two, three phases of Marvel storytelling do track back through Loki and the choices he made,” Wright said in an interview with ComicBook. Even Loki’s failure to fulfil his role in the Avengers had an impact on Thanos’ visit to Earth. Wright said, “So all of that plays out, and as we were developing this, we were kind of like, ‘Oh, in a broad sense, it would be really cool if the coming phases also ran through Loki and his choices, but in a different, unexpected way.'” Wright addressed the possibility that Loki may be connected to Secret Wars. Wright thinks that the MCU will welcome Loki Season 2 even if the wider MCU has no effect on the narrative. These are quite broad topics, but we always strive to keep our attention on the task at hand and avoid becoming sidetracked by the wider picture. The rest of the MCU will accept our tale if we tell it extremely effectively, he predicted. When questioned if his statement was proof that Loki will play a large role in the events of Secret Wars, Wright responded, “Sylvie has a lot of responsibility in that, by the way, with what she’s done with the Multiverse.”
The possibility of Loki returning to the main MCU is still up in the air, but Wright anticipates more tales about the God of Mischief since his first two seasons “were always built to be two chapters of the same book.” In addition, he disclosed that Season 2 leaves things “open-ended,” allowing Marvel Studios to produce a third season of the Disney+ series if they so want.
