Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in the recently revealed poster for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, explained her thoughts on the uncomfortable posture. Although the Guardians race towards what appears to be the “end of the chapter” for this specific edition of the cosmic squad, Gillan has been playing the daughter of Thanos in the MCU for close to ten years. Although it is unclear whether Nebula will survive the upcoming threequel, given that she recently received a slight upgrade in the universe, it appears that Marvel may be planning to invest in the character for the long term. The first theatrical poster for the upcoming MCU epic from filmmaker Jame Gunns, however, has brought Gillan into the forefront.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe actress Karen Gillan responded to criticism that her character Nebula received for her uncomfortable position on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 poster.

Gillan jokedly expressed regret about the posture she picked for the Marvel Studios billboard in a video on her own TikTok account. The actress recalled, “I believe I look fairly good here as I strike this posture. She therefore acknowledged “all responsibility for her choice:”
“Okay, can anybody tell me what I was thinking when I decided to pose like this on an international, worldwide poster that will remain forevermore? I remember doing this pose and thinking, ‘I think I look pretty cool here.’ (laughs) So I take full responsibility for this choice, but oh my God, what am I leaning against? What is my elbow doing?”

You’ll be seeing that stance again somewhere you’ll least expect it, the Nebula actress said, adding “Maybe she could double down and make this pose a thing:”
“Maybe I should double down and make this pose a thing… I stared at it for so long, I was like, ‘Oh maybe, I’m reaching for a weapon to take out and fight someone.’ And then I remembered that I’m not wearing a holster or anything that would carry a weapon, so it’s not that either. You’ll be seeing that pose again somewhere where you’ll least expect it.”
Many sexist remarks have been made online about Nebula’s uncomfortable power position as well as her lack of feminine-presenting characteristics as shown in the poster. Even though Karen Gillan may appear ridiculous on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 poster, she does not appear out of place. One must keep in mind that this piece of advertising artwork also depicts Chris Pratt listening to a Walkman, a dog in an astronaut costume, and Zoe Saldana’s Gamora striking a pose.
She is not the odd one out in this group, after all. Isn’t it the intention for the Guardians to appear somewhat ridiculous? The fact that Gillan feels the need to comment on her character’s arm-above-the-head appearance is amusing despite this, though.
If the actress does make this a thing and flaunts this posture wherever she can in the run-up to the movie, that would be humorous. Karen Gillan isn’t responding to the haters who made offensive remarks about Nebula’s physique on the poster because she doesn’t have to. The character shouldn’t have to defend her lack of desirable feminine characteristics that these online trolls seem to be desiring because she appears really badass despite her unusual choice of pose.
On May 5, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will premiere in cinemas.
