The huge season 2 budget for Loki

Spread MCU News

The price of Loki Season 2 has been made public, demonstrating how much money Disney and Marvel Studios are spending on the sequel to the popular first season. The budget for Loki’s second season is reportedly $141.3 million. There will be six episodes in the season, each costing about $23.5 million. Despite being large, the sum is still less than the rumoured $250 million cost of Andor and the $212 million budget for Secret Invasion. The cost of Loki is comparable to that of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which cost $150 million to produce over the course of six episodes.

Given recent developments, despite the budget being somewhat reduced, Disney is still investing a sizable sum on a Marvel Studios project. The Walt Disney Company has been in transition for the past few years, but with CEO Bob Iger back in charge, there have been significant changes. In order to save $5.5 billion, Disney terminated 7,000 positions in February. Given all the individuals who lost their jobs as a result, the action was greeted with a great deal of anger from the company’s supporters. Iger said that Marvel and Star Wars programming will be slowed down in addition to the contentious decision. The underwhelming movie office performance of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is probably to blame on the Marvel side of things. Despite the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a critical and financial success, Secret Invasion’s unfavourable reviews may have an effect on future ventures considering their expense.

But with Loki, Disney appears to be counting on the first season’s performance, which did well with fans and critics and is generally thought of as one of the MCU’s strongest series. But it also doesn’t appear that Lucasfilm is lowering expenses. The cost of pre-production for the new Star Wars series The Acolyte was reported to be $49.2 million. Although the full budget has not yet been disclosed, it is probably comparable to that of other recent Marvel and Star Wars episodes. The God of Mischief becoming unstick in time was hinted to in the first Loki Season 2 teaser, compelling him and the TVA to work together once more to find a solution. Sylvie is also involved, and she’s moving about a lot after choosing to kill He Who Remains in the Season 1 finale. There was also a quick sight of Jonathan Majors Kang from the Quantumania post-credits sequence, demonstrating that he will continue to be associated with the series despite the continuing domestic violence lawsuit brought against him.
