As he provides an update on the show’s status, Marvel Cinematic Universe star Vincent D’Onofrio makes a provocative suggestion about the tone of the upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again. D’Onofrio, who will play Wilson Fisk/Kingpin again in Born Again, stated in an interview that the Marvel Spotlight banner will “for sure” host the MCU series. In response to a question about whether Born Again will have a similar gloomy tone as its Netflix predecessor, D’Onofrio said the new show will “feel” like its predecessor and complimented Marvel for giving the project considerable thought. “The tone and vibe are the same. The supervisors are paying it an amazing amount of attention,” he said.

With its programming, Marvel Spotlight, a recently launched label, would feature “more grounded, character-driven stories,” departing from the larger big-budget paradigm under the MCU umbrella. The first Disney+ MCU series to air under the Marvel Spotlight banner is Echo, which is anticipated to have a clear connection to Born Again, strengthening the live-action adaptation of the comic book series. Although nearly half of the programme has been filmed, Born Again is going through major creative changes as a result of the dismissal of its directors and principal writers, Chris Ord and Matt Corman. Following the failures of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Secret Invasion, officials at the studio were reportedly considering a strategic change in the creation of MCU series. According to reports, Marvel President Kevin Feige thought that the redesign was required given how unhappy with the output to that point. Amidst the concerning developments, D’Onofrio urged Born Again followers to have patient, stating that most of the information regarding the issue has been exaggerated.

Charlie Cox plays the title character in Born Again, which also stars D’Onofrio, Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blade, Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, and Charlie Cox as the titular antihero. Under the working title “Out the Kitchen,” filming got underway in New York this past March, but it was eventually put on hold because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. There’s still no indication on when principal photography will commence, but lead directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been brought on. Born Again’s first season was initially scheduled to last for 18 episodes and debut in 2024, however a change in the show’s artistic direction derailed those plans. In order to try to save the people of New York, Murdock and Fisk will have to set aside their rivalry and darker personas in the show, but they will run into problems when their pasts come back to haunt them.
