The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been a massive success, with its numerous superhero movies raking in billions of dollars at the box office. One of the most beloved franchises in the MCU is the Guardians of the Galaxy series, which follows a group of misfits who come together to save the universe.
The next film in line for the MCU is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will round out the Guardians trilogy and bring an end to the franchise. Director James Gunn has promised that this film will be longer than the first two films, but didn’t give a specific runtime.
However, according to an official listing on ticket seller Atom Tickets, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will have a runtime of 2 hours and 29 minutes. This makes it the longest film in the entire Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. For reference, the first film was 2 hours and 2 minutes long, while the second film was 2 hours and 17 minutes long. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was only 44 minutes long.
This runtime would also tie the movie with Avengers: Infinity War as the fourth longest MCU movie ever, beating out films like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Captain America: Civil War, but not quite reaching the lengths of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avengers: Endgame.
So why is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 so long? As previously mentioned, James Gunn has promised that this film will be emotional and beautiful. The film is set to take the emotional aspects of the first two films and turn them up to 11. It was already confirmed that this will be the last movie in the MCU that Dave Bautista’s Drax appears, and one of the official trailers showcased baby Rocket enduring some grueling torture.
In addition to the emotional aspect, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to introduce two new characters to the MCU: Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock and Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary. With all of these elements present in the same film, it only makes sense for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to have such a long runtime.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is highly anticipated by fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this beloved franchise. With a runtime of 2 hours and 29 minutes, it’s clear that James Gunn and the rest of the team behind the film have a lot in store for audiences.
For those curious about where Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 falls on the list of longest MCU movies, here is the updated ranking:
