A recent poll suggests that more individuals than previously believed may be anticipating Marvel Studios’ much anticipated The Marvels. In a post on X, Fandango revealed that a survey it conducted found that more than 2000 moviegoers chose The Marvels as the “Most Anticipated Fall Movie,” with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, The Equaliser 3, A Haunting in Venice, and Killers of the Flower Moon following in those positions in second, third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Along with her on-screen allies, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau/Photon (Teyonah Parris), Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) won “Most Anticipated Main Character” while Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) won “Most Anticipated Supporting Character.”

Regarding the movie itself, Nia DaCosta, the filmmaker, discussed how The Marvels combats the phenomenon of superhero exhaustion. She stated, “I think superhero fatigue clearly occurs. Its extreme wackiness and silliness set it apart from the other MCU films to date in a huge way. The planets we visit in this film are very different from those you’ve already seen in the MCU. You’ve never seen such bright planets before. DaCosta did, however, hint that The Marvels will also cover “specific, personal, sometimes sad things.” Recently, DaCosta has also talked about the relationship between Carol, Monica, and Kamala in the movie. She said, “I thought it would be nice to put a sister narrative and an alienated family history onto them. The oldest sister, Carol, is the prodigal, followed by Monica, the middle sister, whom Carol had a childhood friendship with and had pledged to reconnect with but had never done. Even while the switching is fantastic, I’m more interested in how these two resolve their differences. The youngest, Kamala, looks up to her big sister despite never having lived with her. At the beginning of the movie, Carol seems a little jaded, but Kamala reminds her of how magnificent she is.

Concerning the possibility of a third Captain Marvel film, DaCosta said that she had presented Marvel Studios President and CCO Kevin Feige with “17 versions of what can happen with all these women, and why and how, and this and that.” And he’s like, ‘Okay, girl,’ and sometimes I believe I’ve got a movie going after this, she continued. Sometimes I think, “Oh, they have this whole other plan that I’m not a part of,” and other times I don’t.
