The Marvels trailer highlights Kamala Khan’s bangle

Spread MCU News

The Marvels team-up reunites Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. The new film continues up where Ms. Marvel left off in the post-credits sequence, with Ms. Marvel mysteriously leaving and being replaced by Captain Marvel. The reason the heroes are moving locations is revealed in the latest teaser for The Marvels, and it links into the origins of Kamala’s powers. Ms. Marvel reinvented Kamala Khan’s origin narrative as the MCU’s eponymous superhero. In the comics, Kamala was an Inhuman, while in the MCU, she is a mutant whose latent talents are awakened by an artefact from her family’s past. Aisha, Kamala’s Great-Grandmother, was revealed to be an exile from the Noor Dimension in the Disney+ series. Aisha discovered a bracelet that may unlock the Noor Dimension. This identical bracelet will later bestow Kamala with superhuman abilities. It was, however, one of a pair, and the second bracelet would play an important part in The Marvels.

The first full-length teaser for The Marvels provides a new look at the film’s villain, Dar-Benn, played by Zawe Ashton, who seeks vengeance on Captain Marvel. Dar-Benn may be seen wearing a bracelet similar to Kamala Khan’s and triggering its power in order to exact her revenge. Although not directly mentioned in the teaser, this looks to be how she entangles Kamala, Carol, and Monica’s light-based talents. This explains Ms. Marvel’s role in The Marvels events, as she is the only team member who has not met the other two. The bangle unearthed by Aisha was one of a pair that would allow the Clandestines – the group of exiles from the Noor Dimension to which Aisha belonged – to return home. Kamala’s mutant genes were awakened by the bangle’s ability to link to the Noor realm, allowing her to draw power from that realm and gain abilities. Aisha spotted the bracelet on the wrist of a body with blue skin, possibly a Kree. Dar-Benn is also a Kree, therefore the bangles might have been produced by the Kree or come into their possession before being split.

Ms. Marvel left a lot of unresolved concerns concerning Kamala Khan’s talents. While her link to the Noor Dimension was revealed as the source of her strength, the origins of the bangles that conferred such powers, as well as the reason the two bangles were separated, remained unknown. Dar-Benn possesses the missing second bangle, according to the teaser for The Marvels, although it’s unclear if she’s always had it or just discovered it. The Marvels can shed new light on the Noor Dimension and the Kree’s relationship to it by examining the bangles and their links to the Kree, revealing more about the nature of Kamala’s powers. Dar-Benn’s usage of a bangle may also increase Kamala’s importance in The Marvels’ narrative, given she is the only other possessor of such a bracelet. Kamala might be the secret to untangling the three heroes’ powers, letting them to fight Dar-Benn’s army without continually exchanging positions.
