The most misunderstood Hulk film had a truly horrifying teaser for its opening

The internal conflict between being civilised and releasing the monster inside has always been a bigger theme for The Hulk as a character. Despite the fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has continually given Hulk room to expand upon and develop from that idea, he has never had sufficient time to analyse his dual personalities as Bruce Banner and the Hulk. However, whereas The Incredible Hulk made a sincere effort to examine his struggle, Ang Lee’s Hulk was purely concerned with this notion. When Hulk first came out, many completely mistook it for another superhero film that would follow Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. While there was action in the film, the focus was more on Bruce’s internal struggle in the wake of the trauma he suffered at the hands of his father. This trauma manifested as the Hulk, transforming a beloved Marvel hero into a psychiatric case study. That said, the teaser trailer for the film, which previewed a much darker film, contributed to the mismatch between the movie and the audience.

Bruce, dressed in a towel, was shown staring in the mirror of a house in a suburban neighbourhood in the first Hulk teaser video. His mirror appeared horrified as steam rose from his washbasin, and a voiceover by Bruce described the risks of losing control and how, when that moment occurred, he enjoyed it. When Bruce’s sleep suddenly vanished, he transformed into the Hulk and tore through his home. The suspense that persisted throughout the whole film was set up by the trailer, despite the fact that it didn’t quite reflect the tone of the film. Those who weren’t aware of the movie’s creation may have found the image unsettling because the soundtrack suggested that the teaser was a horror film. As a result, anxiety was already rising as a result of Bruce’s voiceover narrating what transpired when he lost control. In less than a minute, the audience was screaming for a release as the teaser’s suspense reached a fever pitch. Then, when Bruce transformed into the Hulk, it enabled spectators to experience the same release and see why he enjoyed the freedom.

The teaser trailer for The Incredible Hulk demonstrated that Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Frankenstein’s Monster served as inspiration. Audiences saw how a quiet guy may accept his transformation into a powerful entity and experience the same awe and fascination as Dr. Jekyll did. The terror, though, also demonstrated how the monster that would be created as a result of his transition would have a high level of fear, much like a werewolf. Audiences witnessed this as Bruce dealt with this struggle in the brief teaser, much like a person watching for a full moon to transform. In actuality, the teaser seemed less like an announcement and more like a short horror film. Bruce resisted the metamorphosis at first, but gradually caved in, as seen by the reluctance in his eyes. It was the appropriate location for a teaser trailer for an otherwise misunderstood comic book movie since the character’s struggle was framed against the serene surroundings of his home.
