Thanks to Miles Morales, Elektra’s career as Daredevil has just achieved a significant accomplishment. The title character of Daredevil: Gang War, Miles Morales, and she defeat a band of wandering A.I.M. operatives, but she’re not sure how to let go of her partner and yet be respectful of him. Elektra finally decides that they should settle for a handshake, which, although appearing trivial, is nonetheless a substantial shift from the silent and stern assassin this particular Daredevil used to be. The youthful Spider-Man is likely to go in for a high five or embrace.
Elektra Natchios was first seen in Frank Miller’s Daredevil in 1980. She was first portrayed as Matt Murdock’s childhood sweetheart, but they grew apart before their own tragedies set them down very divergent courses in life. After years of training, Elektra chose a more deadly kind of justice by rising to become one of The Hand’s most skilled killers, while Matt famously became Daredevil. Since then, Elektra has been a major character in many tales, ranging from her tragic demise at the hands of Bullseye in Frank Miller and Klaus Janson’s 1981 Daredevil to joining a number of superteams including Heroes for Hire and the Thunderbolts. Elektra assumed the role of Daredevil when he was detained for murder and started defending Hell’s Kitchen. Even after Matt Murdock was eventually released from prison, Elektra has carried on with her role as Daredevil. Additionally, she has stuck to the original’s “no killing” tenet, which used to be a significant source of conflict between them. This was particularly true when she first became Daredevil, a decision she made partly to show Matt that she wasn’t just a murderous person at heart.
