The Punisher actor discusses if Wolverine and Deadpool's cameo was taken into consideration

There were a lot of speculations going around before to the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine regarding possible cameos that never happened. Thomas Jane, actor of The Punisher, was said to have made an appearance, although Jane was never contacted for a cameo. Jane talked on his absence in Wolverine & Deadpool in a recent interview with The Direct. Although he acknowledged that he wasn’t called to reprise his role as Frank Castle for the movie, Jane believes it’s best to let his interpretation of the character in the past since she loves what Jon Bernthal has done with it since then. That being said, Jane isn’t against joining the Marvel Universe again in a new capacity.

Jane said, “Nope,” when asked if a Punisher appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine was taken into consideration. My favorite Punisher is Jon Bernthal. It was always a little bit of a reach for me, I believe. It is assumed that Frank Castle is an Italian American. I’m not. I’m an American Irishman. I had to color my hair and adopt a character since Bernthal pulls it off so well, but I believe they should stay with him.”

“I think they should stick with Jon Bernthal.“

Jane went on, “Hey, that wouldn’t be bad,” about maybe portraying a villain alongside Bernthal’s Punisher. That’s nice. Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t feature Jane, despite it was somewhat mentioned in the 2004 movie. The Russian, the film’s antagonist portrayed by Kevin Nash, reappeared in Deadpool & Wolverine, but in a new capacity. The original Russian actor responded to the character since he had the same clothes but also had darker hair and a beard than Nash’s portrayal of the character in The Punisher. Naturally, the story of the film dealt directly with the universe, which may account for why The Russian in Deadpool & Wolverine is so different from the previous version. Nash stated, “That looks nothing like the character I played,” on a recent Kliq This podcast episode. “That doesn’t resemble The Russian at all. It appears that they did a favor for someone.”
