The Secret Invasion concludes episode 4 with yet another shocking death.

Nick Fury has lost another key ally and buddy three weeks after losing Maria Hill in the Secret Invasion season premiere. The fourth episode of the Disney+ limited series “Beloved” depicted the death of the Skrull Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn. Talos proceeded on an explosive mission with Fury to rescue United States President Ritson after enjoying an emotional moment with his daughter, G’iah, earlier in the episode. Talos was injured in the subsequent struggle against the renegade Skrulls and began to revert to his Skrull form. While it appeared that Talos would survive the operation, it was immediately revealed that the soldier guiding Talos to Fury’s truck was Gravik, who then killed Talos by plunging a knife into his chest.

Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn, first appeared in Captain Marvel (2019), a film set in the 1990s. Initially mistaken for a terrorist by S.H.I.E.L.D., it is subsequently revealed in the film that the Skrulls have been forced to near-extinction as a result of the Kree’s devastation of their homeworld. Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and Fury agree to assist the Skrulls in finding a new home. Talos aided Fury in safeguarding the world over the following thirty years, even momentarily adopting the latter’s identity during the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). The character made his third, and possibly final, appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Secret Invasion.

Through its first four episodes, Secret Invasion has not shied away from challenging the current quo in the MCU. Aside from the murders of Maria Hill and Talos, the most shocking revelation in Secret Invasion has been that a Skrull has been impersonating Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes/War Machine for an unspecified period of time. The reveal was originally hinted at in the third episode and confirmed in “Beloved,” which featured the Skrull who had usurped Rhodey’s identity. With Fury being aware that Rhodey is a Skrull, it remains to be seen how the former would utilise that knowledge to expose the phoney Rhodey and locate the real Rhodey. Secret Invasion depicts Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) when he hears of a hidden invasion of Earth by a band of shapeshifting Skrulls commanded by Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Gravik, based on the blockbuster 2008 Marvel Comics tale of the same name. Secret Invasion also stars Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Richard Dormer, and Samuel Adewunmi, in addition to the aforementioned names.
