Marvel executive producer Sana Amanat and showrunner Dario Scardapane talk about the reshoots of Daredevil: Born Again and why Matt Murdock’s first solo MCU series had to add three episodes. The spiritual follow-up to Netflix’s three-season Daredevil series is Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again. In his own series, Charlie Cox’s character Matt Murdock battles Wilson Fisk, Benjamin Poindexter, and a new antagonist who goes by the moniker “Muse” after making cameos in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.

How much of Daredevil: Born Again was changed and reshot was a question posed to Marvel Studios executive producer Sana Amanat and showrunner Dario Scardapane in an interview with Collider. According to Scardapane, six episodes were altered and “three episodes’ worth” of content was added to improve “Fisk and Matt, a little more action, pathos” despite their high quality. The crew “wanted to make it a bit darker and more intense and offer that connective tissue that just wasn’t quite there before” in order to make Daredevil: Born Again more close to the Netflix original Daredevil, Amanat continues. Below is a whole answer from Scardapane and Amanat:

“Quite a bit,” Dario Scardapane said. lived quite a bit. The problem is that they had that period during the strike to examine what they had, and those six episodes were really good—I watched them much later. I believe Sana can attest to this. The problem was bringing back the emotions and concepts we cherished from the previous show and context, even if they were really strong. I’ll repeat it again and again. We needed to have the opening fifteen minutes of that first episode to create the scene since it is the one that introduces us to the run.

In the end, we produced almost three episodes’ worth of extra content, in addition to a significant quantity of interstitial content within the middle six’s body. It was primarily augmentation, in my opinion, and it was really highlighting the elements that we enjoyed more—Fisk and Matt, a bit more action, and pathos. There was the show. We only needed to do a few things to bring out the something that it wanted to be.

Sana Amanat: “Again, kudos to Chris Ord and Matt Corman. What we really wanted to build upon was the realistic and realistic New York that those authors—some of whom remained with us in this new writers’ room—gave us. However, as Dario mentioned, we wanted to tug on threads in some areas. With our returning characters and narrating the drama of who they are, nearly seven, eight, or ten years later, we wanted to make it a little darker and more dramatic and provide that kind of connection that wasn’t quite there before. The precise timing surrounding that is unknown to us.
