The Thunderbolts filmmaker expressed his excitement about working with the ensemble of the next Marvel Studios picture. In a recent interview, Jake Schreier discussed directing the MCU’s antihero film, which is currently slated to arrive in theatres in late 2024 due to delays. In the interview, Schreier said that the film’s ambitious ensemble cast, which featured Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and Harrison Ford, was what first drew him to Thunderbolts. “I think what stood out was, I mean, first of all, the cast is just incredible, and how could you not be excited about getting to work with that group of people?” said Schreier. Schreier discussed how his acquaintance with director Jon Watts, who helmed Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home, piqued his curiosity in working for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Watts was Schreier’s undergraduate flatmate, and the two of them remain close friends. “Knowing what a great experience he had making those films,” Schreier said. I also worked as a second unit on the Los Angeles segment of one of the Spider-Man movies, giving me a little bit more of a connection to or understanding of that environment’, he continued.

The Thunderbolts from the MCU are a group of antiheroes and former villains from earlier films and television programmes. This group consists of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Red Guardian (David Harbour). Following the demise of William Hurt in 2021, Ford is now portraying Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Steven Yeun, star of The Walking Dead, who had previously collaborated with Schreier on the Netflix series Beef, was cast in an unnamed part that industry sources think is Sentry.

The WGA strike has caused numerous Marvel Studios projects to be postponed, including Thunderbolts, whose production has been delayed from its initial June 2023 start date. In addition to events from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Captain America: New World Order, which will include Harrison Ford as the new Thunderbolt Ross, the movie is partially a sequel to Black Widow. Phase 5 of the MCU, which will conclude with Blade in early 2025, includes Thunderbolts as its second-to-last installment.
