THE WASP AND ANT-MAN: QUANTUMANIA Spoilers: How the film Uses A Truly Bizarre Take On M.O.D.O.K.

Since the name of the individual and how he fits into the story may still be deemed spoilers for those who haven’t seen Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it’s advised not to read any further if you haven’t seen the film.

When Scott Lang and his pals enter the Quantum Realm and appear on Kang’s radar, they come across the “Mental Organism Designed Only For Killing” (that’s actually M.O.D.O.F.K.). It doesn’t take him long to expose his identity as Darren Cross, the original Ant-Man villain, who managed to live as a huge head with tiny limbs and legs. After Cross was zapped in the Quantum Realm, Kang found him, outfitted him with technology, and made him his minion. If only Cassie (Kathryn Newton) had said it to Kang, eh? Because at the very end of the movie, Darren makes the ultimate sacrifice to beat his master and rescue the day.

He exits in a humorous way, thanking Scott for letting him go as an Avenger. We can imagine that M.O.D.O.K. would rank among the film’s most contentious elements. The enormous CG face of actor Corey Stoll looks absurd, which is exactly the goal, yet it is still rather off-putting. We can also imagine that certain fans won’t like how the character is used. To be honest, not many of the jokes make it to Quantumania, but old Darren can still make you smile. Again, though, your results may differ in that aspect. Could we have a new M.O.D.O.K.? He did seem to die, but that doesn’t mean Marvel Studios couldn’t decide that fans wanted to see more of him in the future. We’ll simply have to wait and see how viewers react as the character does have promise (Hulu’s animated series was a riot despite only airing for one season).

How did M.O.D.O.K. fare in Ant-Man 3 in your opinion? Leave a remark for us below.
