Director of Deadpool 3 Shawn Levy talked about why he wanted legendary Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman to dress as a comic book character in the Merc with a Mouth’s most recent film. Levy explained his decision in an interview, saying, “Like the rest of the world, I’ve waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don’t know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right.” He added, “It also helps that I’m making this movie within the MCU, so I have access to an army of the nerdiest nerds available to a Marvel project.” He went on to say that the production crew went through “multiple, multiple, multiple iterations and fittings” to get the outfit just perfect. Levy went on to claim that he and the movie’s star, Ryan Reynolds, wanted Deadpool 3 “to be grounded and not feel like a bunch of physical environments filmed on a soundstage,” so they shot some of the project on location, which is how the images of Jackman from the movie were leaked. Fortunately, it appears that the response to those outfits has been extremely favourable worldwide, so everything worked out in the end, he said.
Levy offered his opinion on the subject of additional casting rumours for the movie even though he said he would “rather not weigh in on it,” concluding, “The rumours about actors, singers, and sports figures who are all allegedly in Deadpool 3 are wonderful. I could build the best cast ever in movie history if I read nothing but the internet, so I’ll just state that some of those rumours are genuine and some of them aren’t. A Deadpool 3 casting rumour claims that Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth will appear in the film, albeit nothing is known about the specifics of his part. In addition to rumours about potential cast members, one further rumour said that Battleworld from Secret Wars might appear in Deadpool 3. In addition, a previous rumour connected to the information concerning Jackman’s outfit claimed that Jackman will wear a comic-accurate mask in the film, albeit neither of these claims have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios. Production on the Regenerating Degenerate and his partner antihero’s comeback to the silver screen, however, has been put on hold as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
