With a cover by Joshua Cassara and Marte Gracia, X-Men is a comic book series written by Gerry Duggan, illustrated by artist/colorist Phil Noto, and lettered by Clayton Cowles. It tells the story of the last few mutants on Earth—a small group of X-Men—and their struggle against Orchis, an evil organisation that seeks to eradicate all mutants from the planet. Orchis planned to assault the X-Men during the most recent Hellfire Gala, an annual mutantkind festival on Krakoa when the X-Men’s newest lineup was revealed. Then, using the threat of killing millions of innocent people if the X-Men’s Krakoa-developed medication was utilised by any human on Earth, Orchis blackmailed Charles Xavier. Thus, Xavier made the majority of Krakoans enter via teleportation gates without their will. A small group of mutants who had previously defied Xavier’s orders broke free and began attacking Orchis from below ground. When the new team was founded, Talon and Synch were appointed the commanders of the X-Men. While their new companions were slain, Talon and Synch survived, and now the two heroes must attempt an extreme measure to prevent the Fall of X from affecting the rest of mutantkind.

Given that there are a plethora of intricate relationships among the X-Men, Talon and Synch’s relationship stands out as one of the more complex ones.Time travelled far more quickly in the Vault than it did on Earth when the two heroes embarked on a quest there. In order for Laura and Synch to use their newly acquired healing capabilities to survive for hundreds of years within the Vault, Synch utilised his ability to duplicate other people’s abilities to “synch” with Laura. After a while, they fell in love and were together for hundreds of years.Synch managed to get away and transfer his memories to Krakoa. This allowed his memories to be recovered when he was revived after being slain.Although Laura appeared to have been slain in the Vault, her memories of the hundreds of years she lived with Synch were absent when she was raised from the dead. The two continued to be teammates, but it was clear that Synch was troubled by the broken relationship all the time. But in the end, it was discovered that the first Laura WASN’T dead. After being released from the Vault, she saw Synch again. But now the world of the X-Men had TWO Lauras roaming about! The elder Laura adopted Talon as her pseudonym.

The first splash on the preview pages features Talon and Synch as Tarot card lovers. The time that Talon and Synch spent together in the Vault is then summarised. In the present, Talon and Synch are meeting with Tony Stark, Norman Osborn, Spider-Man, and Orchis in an attempt to come up with a plan on how to take down the creature. Disabling the “kill switch” that Orchis has implanted in every person who has taken X-Men medication is their first priority. Although Sauron may have been of assistance with some of his technologies, Spider-Man jokingly pointed out that his main concern is transforming humans into dinosaurs. Still, that got Synch to consider the High Evolutionary. Talon and Synch are travelling to Counter-Earth to see whether the High Evolutionary can assist in neutralising Orchis’ kill switch because Synch had previously given the High Evolutionary some of his blood.
