The first look at the Thunderbolts film has been unveiled, albeit Florence Pugh has requested that it be kept hidden from Marvel Studios. Florence Pugh returns to the MCU as Yelena Belova in Thunderbolts, having previously appeared in Black Widow and Hawkeye. On Wednesday, she used Instagram to share a fresh video from the set. In the video, Pugh is a little enigmatic, indicating that she is “not really allowed” to discuss anything about the project. However, she does share a first peek at the film’s real footage.
I know I’ve been quiet for a while, but that’s because I was whisked away to Atlanta to make a movie that I’m not allowed to talk about, but I can show you certain things, stealthily, as long as you don’t tell anyone, Pugh said in the video. She then travels through several locations of the stage, exposing some of the Thunderbolts staff members that work behind the scenes. It concludes with Pugh approaching director Jake Schreier, who is watching footage from the film on a computer monitor. “This is Jake, the director. What can we say we’re doing?” Pugh speaks to Schreier. The director then stated, “I don’t think you’re even allowed to be doing this, most likely.” Pugh then quipped that “somebody’s gonna come rugby tackle” her, but before stopping the video, she shows a clearer view of the monitor. Though the picture quality isn’t fantastic, the snapshot appears to depict Pugh’s Yelena Belova holding a pistol.
“It’s wonderful,” Pugh previously stated about finally starting production on Thunderbolts after several delays. “When we finished Black Widow, we anticipated we’d be shooting the next movie sooner than we did, and it’s just been something that’s been looming, that we’ve been waiting to film at some point in the future, and now it’s really happening, so it seems odd, but it’s coming back. Yelena is coming back.” Thunderbolts will have a star-studded ensemble cast, with Florence Pugh playing only one role. Other cast members include Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine), Lewis Pullman (Sentry), and Harrison Ford (“Thunderbolt” Ross).
