“Thunderbolts*” was first officially announced back at Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022. The film follows a ragtag group of misfit anti-heroes from previous films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as they band together against current CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, also known as Val. Val is attempting to cover up her political dirt, and the team also comes across a man named Bob, who may be more than he seems. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Val, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. The central question looms: will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?
We can now reveal what we know about the runtime of “Thunderbolts*”. The film currently has an approximate runtime of 2 hours. This runtime is in line with many of the most recent Marvel outings, such as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, “The Marvels”, and “Deadpool & Wolverine”, as well as the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World”. Many online have expressed concern about these shorter runtimes, considering the critical and financial failures of some of the aforementioned films (excluding “Deadpool & Wolverine”). However, the talent behind “Thunderbolts*” offers some hope. With director Jake Schreier from “Beef” and writer Joanna Calo from “The Bear”, along with lead star Florence Pugh describing the film as having an “A24-feeling”, it’s safe to say that expectations are high for this one.
“Thunderbolts*” is based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name and boasts a stacked cast. The film stars Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Lewis Pullman as Bob, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus reprising her role as Val. Directed by Jake Schreier and written by Joanna Calo, Eric Pearson, and Lee Sung Jin, the film is set to hit theaters on May 2nd. With such a talented team behind it, “Thunderbolts*” promises to be an exciting addition to the MCU.
