Tobey Maguire, who played Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, talked about what it was like to work again with Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina on the third installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the new book Spider-Man: No Way Home – The Art of the Movie. And it was wonderful to collaborate with Willem and Alfred once more. In an interview, Maguire remarked, “I really admire those guys and regard them as the wonderful talents that they are as well as just as nice persons. It was so much fun; it seemed like a reunion. With Molina playing Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Dafoe playing Green Goblin as an illusion in Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 (2007), respectively, Maguire previously collaborated with Molina and Dafoe on Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.

Thomas Haden Church, who was a co-star in Spider-Man 3 with Tobey Maguire, made a comeback in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor returned as Flint Marko/Sandman from the 2007 movie, but only as the CG-generated Sandman’s voice. For the parts where Sandman is shown as a human, archival footage of Church from Spider-Man 3 was utilised due to schedule constraints. The live-action Spider-Man films starring Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man duology), and Tom Holland (Marvel Cinematic Universe) have all been produced by Sony, but No Way Home marks the first time all three actors have been onscreen together. Additionally, it was the first time since 2007 that Maguire has performed as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Maguire also discussed in The Art of the Movie book how he felt when he found out that Sony and Marvel wanted to bring him back as Spider-Man. “When they first phoned… ‘Finally!’ I said. I simply feel thankful because I was so forthcoming about coming to do this, Maguire remembered. No nerves at all! But the opportunity to perform alongside bright, imaginative individuals is a simple yes. It was absolutely amazing to see everyone come together with such an open heart, loving one another, and supporting one another. Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought in $1.922 billion worldwide for Sony/Marvel, was a huge box office success. The popularity of the movie generated rumours that Sony was considering restarting both Maguire and Garfield’s movie series with additional episodes. Church recently confirmed the rumours, saying he had heard “that Sam Raimi was going to do another Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire, and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo.” The only Spider-Man 4 that is currently in production, though, is another Holland-led sequel that takes place in the MCU.
