Travis Scott wants to create the Blade Reboot soundtrack for Marvel Studios

Travis Scott recently submitted his name for consideration for the open position of composer on Marvel Studios’ next Blade revival. Scott, a producer, musician, and rapper, indicated interest in directing Blade’s score in a post on X. He wrote, “Woke up thinking I’d love to perform the music to Blade. Scott has acted in and composed the soundtrack for several films, including Gully from 2021. In August 2021, the singer also agreed to a contract with independent company A24 for the creation of a film. However, there is currently no evidence that Scott and Marvel Studios have really explored the potential of his providing music for Blade.

It’s also important to note that Scott would probably not start working on the Blade project anytime soon, even if he were to acquire the job. Since it was revealed in July 2019, the revival, which will see Mahershala Ali’s Blade make his full-fledged Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, has been beset by delays. A portion of the delay is apparently attributable to Ali, a two-time Oscar winner, who is said to have repeatedly requested that Marvel Studios rework the screenplay. Some reports have even claimed that Ali is dissatisfied with how Blade’s pre-production is going, which is why the actor has allegedly taken on a more active role. The MCU Blade revival has been stalled for the past four years due to a constant series of crucial creative team changes. Notably, Yann Demange replaced the original director Bassam Tariq two months after Tariq left the project in September 2022. Stacy Osei-Kuffour was replaced by Michael Starrbury as the screenwriter for Blade in November 2022, and Starrbury was then replaced by Nic Pizzolatto, who worked with Ali on True Detective, in April 2023.

Another factor affecting the production timelines of multiple Marvel Studios movies, including Blade, is the Hollywood strikes. The first MCU film still in development, Blade, put its production on hold in May 2023 in reaction to the Writers Guild of America strike. The film’s release date was subsequently moved by Marvel Studios to February 14th, 2025. The debut dates for Captain America: Brave New World Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars have all been postponed. In contrast, Deadpool 3 will open in theatres on May 3, 2024, as opposed to the originally announced Nov. 8, 2024.
