Unveiling Marvel’s Secret Invasion: analyzing the Skrull suspects

Spread MCU News

In the latest episode of Marvel’s Secret Invasion, we are introduced to the idea that trust is a luxury we cannot afford, not even when it comes to the show’s opening titles. But what about Agent Everett Ross? How long has he been a Skrull imposter? Today, we dive into the MCU timeline and explore the Skrull checklist to determine just how suspicious our beloved Marvel characters might be.

First appearing as a CIA agent in Captain America: Civil War, Ross’s journey has been intertwined with key events and characters. From detaining the Winter Soldier to assisting the Wakandans and finding himself in federal custody, Ross has faced various challenges. However, as of episode 1 of Secret Invasion, we are left wondering if Ross was recently abducted and replaced or if he has been a Skrull all along. The Ross we encounter in the series possesses the knowledge and memories of the CIA agent, including his connection to Nick Fury’s S.W.O.R.D.

To shed more light on this matter, we reached out to Secret Invasion director Ali Saleem, who intriguingly hinted that “all will be revealed” regarding Ross’s true nature. While it is common for prominent guest stars in MCU Disney Plus shows to appear in multiple episodes, we can’t discount the possibility of Ross being a Skrull from the very beginning. However, considering his incapacitation during Black Panther, it is plausible that he was turned after his escape from Wakanda.

As we continue our Skrull search, let’s examine the Skrull checklist. Skrull suspects must be alive, visibly human, devoid of powers, immune to radiation, known for deceit, and somewhat blank slates. Based on these criteria, we have compiled a list of the top eight candidates for past known MCU characters likely to be revealed as Skrulls in the series.

  1. Everett Ross: While he checks all the boxes, his incapacitation during Black Panther raises questions.
  2. Val: Shady and mysterious, Val ticks all the boxes and might be the highest-profile US government official who is a Skrull.
  3. Sharon Carter: Her questionable actions and sudden appearances make her a solid Skrull candidate.
  4. Laura Barton: With a mysterious backstory and recent revelations, she raises suspicion as a former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  5. Rhodey: Despite being an Avenger, his fall in Civil War might have ruled out his long-standing Skrull status.
  6. Happy Hogan: Jon Favreau’s willingness to contribute to Disney Plus titles and his proximity to Tony Stark make him an interesting possibility.
  7. William Ginteriva: A member of Team Mysterio, his involvement in spreading fake news hints at a potential Skrull connection.
  8. Wong: A practitioner of the Mystic Arts, Wong’s role as a frequent cameo maker and comedic relief raises intriguing possibilities.
