In the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds’s character Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s character Wolverine will team up to face Cassandra Nova, a shared menace. Emma Corrin, who is set to play the character, has disclosed the sources of inspiration for the part. In a recent interview, Corrin talked about her role as Cassandra Nova for Entertainment Weekly. One picture that sprang to mind was Gene Wilder from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, but it was also influenced by Christoph Waltz’s evil Hans Landa from Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. According to Corrin, Cassandra Nova also has the appearance of being “disarmingly polite,” which adds to the villain’s eerie appeal. Corrin says about Nova, “They wanted her to be unpredictable.” “It’s extremely eerie how Waltz’s Inglourious Basterds character is so surprisingly kind, kind, and unaffected. The fact that he is not required to take any action makes it much more menacing.

Reynolds saw the inspiration from Gene Wilder. The Deadpool actor has already discussed Corrin’s portrayal of Cassandra Nova and emphasized the villain’s capriciousness. Additionally, he made reference to the character’s lethal charm—Corrin manages to endear the antagonist right from the start. According to Reynolds, “It felt like working with a skin-covered Swiss Army knife,” Harper’s Bazaar said. “Emma gave Deadpool and Wolverine a Gene Wilder vibe. From their very first scene, we have enough insight into the villain to understand why she is driven to fight our heroes despite her mischief, danger, and unpredictable nature. Emma’s exceptional ability to humanize even the most jumbled lines is the reason behind this. Loving a villain is the one thing we like more than loathing them. We really adore Emma’s Cassandra Nova right away.”

“The only thing we love more than hating a villain is loving one. And we love Emma’s Cassandra Nova from the jump.”

Reynolds tempted us even more, saying, “Emma can change so subtly—she can turn on a dime.” There was a feeling of peril and effortlessness.” Shawn Levy is the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, which also stars Hugh Jackman. Given that Deadpool & Wolverine is the first MCU picture to be rated R, there’s a high possibility Cassandra Nova will bleed a lot of blood. It’s reasonable to assume that Nova is extremely dangerous given that the character is running a base out of the skull of an Ant-Man variation. As such, Wolvering will need to set aside his issues with Deadpool and work together to defeat the multiversal opponent.
