The release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is just a few weeks away, but Marvel Studios is still doing everything it can to make sure the film has everything it needs to be a financial success. Paul Rudd, who played the protagonist in Quantumania, was seen filming pickup scenes for the threequel over the weekend in Los Angeles.
Given that there was no legal action taken and a public practical set was used, it is almost certain that these pick-ups were made to acquire the perfect shot for the movie rather than to alter the course of the story.
Are movie retakes bad?
Retakes used to be dreaded in Hollywood since they were sometimes an indication that a project wasn’t doing well with its studio. Marvel Studios now plans ahead for reshoots to make any necessary adjustments to films after thoroughly viewing them for test audiences.
“‘Reshoots’ was a bad word. ‘Oh this movie’s in reshoots, there must be a problem,'” Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, spoke about the studio’s 2019 production schedule.
And he said,“Retakes are essential to our movies, beginning with Iron Man. At Marvel, we pride ourselves on being intelligent filmmakers, but we are not geniuses, and the best way to provide notes on a film is to actually watch it. So after producing the film, we realise that something is wrong. We now have a system that is quite precise and effective, and we can say, “That doesn’t work.” To keep working on the move and make it the best it can be, [reshoots] can last for a day, a week, or even longer.”
Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang in the movie, along with Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, and Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror as the real villain.
In the film, which officially kicks off phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Super-Hero partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Jonathan Majors joins the adventure as Kang.
