Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can look forward to seeing a new side of Nick Fury in the upcoming miniseries, Secret Invasion, which builds on that promise with a peek of Samuel L. Jackson’s lead character. Jackson, his co-stars, and the creators of Secret Invasion discuss Fury and what viewers can anticipate from the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director in the eagerly awaited Disney+ series. This is seen in new promotional video from Marvel that was published for Secret Invasion. Jackson asserted during the teaser that Fury is “not a super. His superpower is persuasiveness and fearlessness,” but co-star Cobie Smulders maintains that he is a “central character to this world.” Also, according to Marvel President Kevin Feige, “We really wanted to learn more about him than we ever learned before,” and according to executive producer and director Ali Selim, “he’s a Nick Fury that we’ve never seen before and, so, that immediately demands a more grounded series.”

Jackson has long made references to a different Fury than MCU fans are accustomed to seeing in Secret Invasion. The illustrious actor claims that Fury displays his age and frailty in Secret Invasion, with the miniseries’ goal being to humanise Fury rather than present him as superhuman. The book also reveals Fury’s more contemplative and analytical side as he mulls over a number of issues, like as the terrible events from the most recent Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame, and the dissolution of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Along with the previously described events, Fury also deals with his departure as director and the impending invasion of Earth by radicalised Skrulls, the shape-shifting alien race he previously collaborated with. The Skrulls attacked Fury because they believed he had broken his promise to give them a new home. As a result, in an effort to impose their will on Earth by force, the dissident Skrull faction, commanded by Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), takes the identities of numerous important political leaders. It’s conceivable for anybody to be a Skrull, as shown by earlier previews and advertising material, since Fury and his allies have trust concerns the entire time.

Despite experiencing some conflict in Secret Invasion, Jackson claims that Fury won’t ask The Avengers for assistance in the series. Along with Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman), and G’iah (Emilia Clarke), Fury attempts to stop the Skrulls’ intended takeover. G’iah, however, holds Fury accountable for failing to provide the Skrulls a place to call home. The series also stars Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth and Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes/War Machine.

Jackson will assist in setting up the events of The Marvels, the follow-up to 2019’s Captain Marvel. Secret Invasion is the first Phase Five TV programme in the MCU. The miniseries consists of six episodes, with the first two receiving generally positive but not outstanding early reviews. Secret Invasion now holds the record for the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score for an MCU small-screen film with a 66% rating.
