Amazing Spider-Man is a comic book series written by Zeb Wells, illustrated by John Romita Jr., illustrated by Scott Hanna, coloured by Marcio Menyz, and lettered by Joe Camagna. It concludes the Gang War crossover event, in which several super-criminal groups in New York City fought for control of the city after several assassination attempts. Spider-Man pledged to put an end to the violence when Randy Robertson, a close friend of Peter Parker, was trapped in the crossfire. He also formed some dubious partnerships, most notably one with Tombstone, whose near-death experience contributed to the gang war’s inception. Following her father’s near death, Tonstone’s daughter, Janice Lincoln, also known as The Beetle, felt compelled to assume control of her father’s lands. There was a significant twist when the battle ultimately came down to the Beetle’s soldiers vs Madame Masque’s (who was also battling to prove something to her father, Maggia chief, Count Nefaria).
Tombstone, in Amazing Spider-Man, came to the realisation that his daughter might actually win. However, he concluded that this would make her even more of a monster than he is, since she would always have to defend her territory from intruders. Therefore, he turned against his own daughter and removed her from the match. The preview pages show that Janice’s soldiers were assisting Spider-Man and his other superheroes in dealing with the more deadly Madame Masque; however, Lincoln has now altered the plan by removing Janice from her command position. Tombstone wants a complete triumph that would solidify his place in the position he did not want to see his daughter play, as we can see in these pages, so his soldiers are now focusing on Spider-Man and the other superheroes. As we can see, a few of Tombstone’s warriors are taken aback by this development (as well as the apparent shift in command at the top), but they all comply as they are aware that crossing with Tombstone is risky.
