Questions concerning Steve Rogers’ location in the MCU have been rekindled with the release of Captain America: Brave New World. Steve last seen in Avengers: Endgame, having spent a lengthy life with Peggy Carter and returning to the present after traveling across time. Sam Wilson, one of Steve’s closest friends and fellow countrymen, received his shield and mantle from Steve here. Even though his choice was sure to draw some criticism, it demonstrated Steve’s faith in Sam and his possession of the qualities required to carry the mantle. Since then, the shield has resurfaced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where Sam finds it difficult to accept Steve’s choice and lets it end up in the wrong hands with John Walker before taking ownership of it. Steve Rogers is only mentioned and shown in images, even though The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are based on Cap’s history. With the release of Captain America: Brave New World, the topic of Steve Rogers’ whereabouts feels even more relevant because the film’s title is an inevitable reminder of the former mantle-holder.
The film Captain America: Brave New World does not feature Steve Rogers. As the new Captain America, he isn’t even addressed by Sam Wilson, who does his tasks without any supervision or guidance from his legendary predecessor. This gives us the reassurance that Steve Rogers is still retired and that he is unlikely to be called upon in any way to respond to threats to the country, no matter how severe. This is consistent with the actions of the late Steve Rogers, who apparently declined to step in when he lived to old age in the hallowed timeline. This choice was probably made to make sure that Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, remains the main emphasis. Even though Sam has shown himself to be a suitable Steve’s successor, bringing Rogers back in Sam’s first solo film will simply make it more difficult to establish Sam’s new role as Cap. Even while Chris Evans has often reassured MCU fans that he is gone from the series, it is difficult to ignore how a cameo by Evans would impact the film’s budget, as Deadpool pointed out in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Steve’s fate six years after the publication of Avengers: Endgame may be concerning, considering that he was last seen as an elderly man leaving Sam Wilson irrevocable parts of his identity. Ultimately, the fact that Sam’s greatest struggle to far makes no reference to his predecessor implies that Steve Rogers has both departed from the MCU and from this world. However, to the best of everyone’s knowledge, Steve Rogers is still alive and is currently enjoying his retirement off-screen. However, there are still unsubstantiated rumors that he lived on the moon. Some people may find it annoying that Steve Rogers is still alive but declines to play any role in apocalyptic events. His senior age shouldn’t stop him from helping outside the action because he was as much a strategist and leader as a hand-to-hand master. Although he was initially speculated to be returning, his absence in Captain America: Brave New World can yet be addressed in a later MCU film like Avengers: Doomsday. Since it seems sense that someone would bring up Steve’s passing, it is safe to presume he is still alive.
