Months before the movies’ premiere, Deadpool & Wolverine’s much awaited first official trailer breaks all previous records for viewing, so the ‘Merc With a Mouth’ already has enough to be proud of. Disney reports that the first teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine, the only Marvel Cinematic Universe film scheduled for release in 2024, had over 365 million views in its first 24 hours online, making it the most viewed trailer ever during that time. This surpasses the previous record set by Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, another Marvel title, which garnered over 255 million views on its first day of availability on the internet. The Deadpool & Wolverine teaser, which debuted during Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, offered viewers a closer look at what to anticipate from the Deadpool threequel, which stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds as the title character, and other significant characters. Among the noteworthy details revealed in the teaser were the much anticipated return of a prominent X-Men character and the appearance of a nemesis who is well-known to fans of the renowned mutant band. Moreover, a few Marvel fans believe they saw Doctor Doom in the Deadpool & Wolverine teaser.
Marvel hopes Deadpool and Wolverine help the MCU regain its position at the top of the box office following a turbulent 2023 in which Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made good money and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels lost money. Filming for the forthcoming MCU tentpole wrapped up in January after being delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Alongside Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, Reynolds and Jackman co-star in Deadpool & Wolverine. Along with the celebrity cameos that Reynolds and filmmaker Shawn Levy have been hinting at for months, the Deadpool threequel will also allegedly include appearances by Taylor Swift (Dazzler), Halle Berry (Storm), and Taron Egerton (a Wolverine version). With recent shows like Echo demonstrating a more adult tone change for the cinematic universe, Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first-ever R-rated MCU feature. After hinting at a possible flashback to Logan in set images, Jackman will be playing the character for the first time since Logan in 2017. Reynolds is an executive producer of the threequel and co-wrote the screenplay.
