Writer of Ant-Man 3 takes responsibility for cutting Evangeline Lilly scene

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans were excited for the release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, the third installment of the Ant-Man franchise. Unfortunately, some fans felt that Evangeline Lilly’s character, the Wasp, was underutilized in the story. Now, the movie’s head writer, Jeff Loveness, has come forward to take responsibility for cutting a scene featuring Lilly’s character.

In an interview with IGN, Loveness explained that the scene in question featured a child actor who was supposed to play Hope Van Dyne’s son during a sequence in the movie. The scene was part of a probability storm, and although Loveness praised Lilly’s work on camera, he felt that the moment was too confusing for the movie’s overall flow.

Loveness took full responsibility for the decision to cut the scene, stating that it was his “shoddy writing.” He even expressed concern for the young actor’s career, hoping that his agent didn’t “scream” at him for the missed opportunity.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’s storyline largely focused on the family dynamic between Scott and Cassie Lang and the Pym/van Dyne clan. Although the movie was hyped up to be the MCU’s next “big [Avengers-level] movie,” it did not live up to expectations. The exclusion of the scene featuring Hope Van Dyne’s son is just one of many moments that ended up on the cutting room floor.

Despite these challenges, Loveness is already set for his next MCU gig with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. While the highly-anticipated sequel should have more runtime to work with, Loveness will face the challenge of working with dozens of new heroes and characters outside of only Team Ant-Man.

In conclusion, while some Marvel fans may be disappointed that a memorable scene featuring Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp was cut from Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Jeff Loveness has taken responsibility for the decision. As the MCU continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how writers like Loveness navigate the challenges of telling compelling stories with limited screen time.
