Loki has witnessed events across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will significantly contribute to his development throughout Loki season 2. Head writer Eric Martin discussed how the previous season’s events impacted this Loki version in an interview, as well as what viewers can expect after the season debut of the Disney+ programme. “Season 1, and Episode 1 in particular, confused his thinking. By the conclusion of that, he is aware of his own mortality. Even the infinity stones are useless at this new level of things, he realises. He had to start over from scratch and discover who he was, Martin added. Additionally, Martin said that Season 2 is like rebalancing Loki, who had kind of forgotten who he was, despite Season 1 pushing the typically cunning Loki in a more heroic path. So, even if Loki is still our hero, we’re coming back to the core of who he is. Resuming our discussion of the God of Mischief. So, now that he is a hero, we see him use all of the God of Mischief’s abilities. While he and friends like Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) fight against time to prevent the collapse of the Time Variance Agency, Loki was shown in the season 2 trailers “time slipping” across numerous periods in time.

At the conclusion of the show’s first season, Loki revealed that the TVA was a fabrication of He Who Remains, a Kang the Conqueror version. By slaying He Who Remains, Sylvie, Loki’s female variant (Sophia Di Martino), liberated Loki’s other multiverse selves. The consequences of this decision were briefly examined in the Season 2 opener “Ouroboros,” in which the Lokis’ activities overloaded the Temporal Loom at the TVA and jeopardised the safety of the whole organisation. The Oscar-winning multiverse film Everything Everywhere All at Once featured Ke Huy Quan making his acting debut as O.B., an engineer who, according to executive producer Kevin Wright, contributed to the development of “every piece of tech, every computer, and everything that is operating at the TVA.” Although Loki’s journey is mostly set outside of the MCU’s Earth, the polarising embrace of multiverse storytelling in Phases 4 and 5 has continued to have an impact on other MCU episodes. With Kang serving as the main enemy in both of the Phase 6 films, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, one may anticipate that this will continue. Wright also suggested that future MCU multiverse-themed storylines would include the TVA, though this has not yet been confirmed.
