Marvel comics is set to release an exciting prequel series to the much-anticipated X-Men ’97 animated series. The Disney+ series is set to take fans back to the ’90s, continuing from where the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series left off. The new series is set to release in 2024 alongside two other titles, including the newly-announced Eyes of Wakanda and a freshly retitled Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The X-Men ’97 prequel comic is set to be a four-issue limited series, written by Steve Foxe and illustrated by Salva Espín, which will serve as a companion story to the TV show.
Steve Foxe, the writer of the prequel series, has revealed that X-Men: The Animated Series had a huge impact on his childhood, and it’s the reason he writes comics today. He’s excited to reunite with his X-Men ’92: House of XCII collaborator Salva Espín on this project. The team has been given a fantastic opportunity to come up with an original tale that will feed right into what viewers will get to experience in the new season. According to Marvel.com, the X-Men ’97 prequel series is created in close collaboration with the showrunners of X-Men ’97.
The X-Men ’97 prequel series will reveal what Storm, Jubilee, Wolverine, and the rest of the beloved ’90s X-Men cast has been up to in the time before their return. The series promises to have startling revelations that will lead directly into the highly anticipated new series. Fans of the X-Men: The Animated Series will be pleased to know that all of their favorite characters, including Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Bishop, Rogue, Beast, Jubilee, Storm, and Jean Grey, will be returning in their iconic costumes. The first issue of the X-Men ’97 prequel series is scheduled for release on March 27, 2024.
