With the announcement of an adjusted release timeline for the next Marvel animated series, fans of X-Men ’97 may finally be able to breathe easier. Marvel Studios reportedly decided to release X-Men ’97 in the spring. Disney+ is expected to launch the ten-episode season in mid- to late-March 2024. The very acclaimed X-Men: The Animated Series, which aired on Fox Kids Network for five seasons and 76 episodes between October 1992 and September 1997, will be continued in X-Men ’97, which Marvel Studios initially announced in November 2021.

It is revealed that X-Men ’97 takes place a few months after “Graduation Day,” the series finale of X-Men: The Animated Series, and that Mister Sinister will serve as the main enemy of the programme. Despite the fact that most plot points are being kept under wraps, it is known that Magneto will be replacing Professor X on the titular team and that the original series finale’s attempt on Charles Xavier’s life “led to this wave of increased sympathy towards mutants and understanding.” Many of the voice performers from X-Men: The Animated Series, including Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Allison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Lenore Zann as Rogue, Christopher Britton as Mister Sinister, and George Buza as Beast, have announced that they will be back for X-Men ’97. Marvel revealed that a second season has been ordered prior to the show’s debut. When Zann posted on social media in December, indicating that she was “back in the studio continuing to record Season 2 of X-Men 97 for Marvel Studios this time in Burbank,” she was hinting to X-Men ’97 Season 2. I’m happy to be back, and I have no doubt that you will all like our new programme just as much as I do.” Before this, Zann hinted that X-Men ’97 will be “a wild ride” for fans.

Marvel Studios reclaimed the film and television rights to the characters from 20th Century Fox, and one of its first X-Men projects following that was X-Men ’97. However, the highly anticipated animated series won’t be the final one. Currently, post-production is being completed on Deadpool 3, the first live-action Marvel Studios X-Men film. The threequel’s plot is yet unknown, however it is said that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’s eponymous Merc with a Mouth would go on an expedition throughout the Multiverse. With Deadpool 3 scheduled to be in theatres in July, fans of the X-Men will have no shortage of mutant-themed Marvel movies to enjoy throughout the early months of 2024.
