Xbox is offering X-Men fans a unique treat: an Xbox Series X and controllers largely influenced by Disney+’s X-Men ’97. The limited-edition console is highly sought for as a unique item accessible exclusively through the sweepstakes. A fortunate player will soon have the bragging rights of owning an Xbox Series X inspired by Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97. X-Men fans have been fawning over the cartoon show’s nostalgia for seven episodes, and Xbox has thankfully joined in. The Xbox website and X account teased glimpses of the controllers and system. The item is a first for the Xbox Series X, making it the only system (so far) wrapped in a comic book. The system also comes with an X-Men character controller, one of eleven possible options.
The console will be encased in a limited-edition comic book inspired by the Disney+ franchise. The two-page spread (with a full-page cover) was created by Marvel writer Rich Douek and artist Paco Diaz and is based on X-Men ’97’s premiere episode, which had Cyclops leading the X-Men in a battle against Master Mold and Sentinels. The Xbox Series X appears in the comic panels as well, referencing the joint launch. Those hoping to obtain the limited-edition system (and accompanying very rare comic) will have to try their luck like everyone else.
Microsoft explained the mechanics of the contest on the Xbox website: Fans can enter to win an Xbox Series X Console inspired by X-Men ’97, an Xbox Wireless Controller (which comes with the console but will not be customized), and an Xbox Design Lab Controller inspired by X-Men ’97 Wolverine by following Xbox on X (formerly Twitter) and retweeting the official Xbox sweepstakes tweet (#Xbox97Sweepstakes) during the Entry Period. Everyone has plenty of time to enter the sweepstakes, which formally opened last Monday and will continue until May 19 at 8 p.m. PST. Additionally, a line of controllers based on well-liked X-Men ’97 characters will be released by Xbox Design Lab. The controllers are packaged in blister packs with color schemes inspired by Beast, Cyclops, Bishop, Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, Jubilee, Morph, Magneto, Gambit, and Cyclops. Microsoft has not yet confirmed the controllers’ release date or pricing. Even while no new X-Men games have been released for the Xbox, the system and controllers will probably increase the replay value of titles like Marvel’s Midnight Suns and the Marvel vs. Capcom series, which all had playable versions of X-Men characters.
